  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lola has had her dental last week

Lola had her dental last week but recently her eyes have become bad again , vet said she might still be in pain but if it carries on bring her back this is a quick pic i could get before she ran off,

Is it possibly the tooth roots that are causing the runny eyes? I think that they can only really be checked by X-ray and I'm not sure if she's had one of those. Might be a possibility?

looks abit better today, stilll wet around the eye,c will probably take her back to the vets

Tooth roots could be causing blocked tear ducts, or they may be just full of gunk and will be flushable. hope she feels better soon :)

she looks better than she did before , but the wetness doesnt seem to go , so vets next week probably

It probably is the roots. You can find out with an x ray, but there isn't a 'cure'. If the roots are elongated or deformed they can push into the tear ducts, blocking them. Dentals help and so do painkillers. They can get infected and I used to be able to tell because the discharge went from being clear to white/yellow and started to smell. They we used eye drops/ointment until it cleared up.
