Pulled Claw Urgent Advice Please

Janey

Warren Veteran
Just cut the bunnies claws and my Mum and I noticed there seemed to have been a whole claw come out. Didn't notice it happen when cutting but the do sometimes struggle and I assumed the claw had caught on the clipper as one of them struggled.

They both seemed fine, gave pellets as a reward/sorry and they went mad for them.

Came back in 2mins later and blood bath, it seems to be Peter's front claw, he doesn't seem upset by it and is more concerned with licking the blood off the floor (which I have wiped).

Is there anything I can/should do. Don't really want to rush to the vets as it is a long way away and would stress them more.

I'm not even 100% it is Peter, he could just have bold on his foot from the floor. Any ideas or advice when I locat the paw involved? I feel awful :(

There isn't much a vet can do, it will heal and grow back :) If it hasn't stopped bleeding already, you can pinch the 'finger' the nail is on to slow the bleeding and use a bit of cornflower on the nail itself. If it's stopped already just leave it alone and have a look tomorrow just to make sure it's clean/healing okay. If you are worried you can always chat to a vet on the phone :)

Thank you.

It seems to have stopped, there is no blood when hopping. I'm still not sure of exact claw because they are already stressed with me so don't want to keep picking them up,they seem fine.

Will keep an eye and have a closer look when they've forgiven me. I'm pretty sure it's pixie but I've come to that conclusion more from examining the claw than the bunny.

Thanks for the advice

I had to rush one of my buns down when she caught her claw and pulled it out (something spooked her) and he just dabbed some stuff on to stop it bleeding but it had anyway by the time I got down there.

I just kept her of muddy grass etc for a couple of days so as no dirt got into it.

Thanks, I thought that may be the case as I'm sure i've read it on here before, when it's your own & you see all the blood I think you panic-ha ha.

Mine are indoors so hopefully easy to keep clean. I hope Petey washes the blood off his white paws though, doesn't look nice.
