  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rosie may need a dental :(

Rose was off her pellets this morning (ate 3 plus a few we hand fed her). Trialled her with a few other things, she ate half of everything and then left the rest, but did some big massive golden pops so had obviously been eating over night

Took her to the vet who Did a thorough check - only thing she can see is a small spur on one of her back teeth - vet felt that it was so small that she's not totally sure that's what's causing it, but in the absence of anything else clinical this is a good bet.

So we've treated for early stasis, got pain relief and recover food just incase, but if no better in 24 hours or so vet said she'd do a dental

I feel sad - we've been spot on with her (and Axl's) diet since we got them - variety of hays, small amount of pellets, fed the Best ones on the market, and she is an excellent hay eater - but she may still need a dental anyway :( she had a stasis episode after her spay so she doesn't do well with anaesthetic/surgery so really don't want her to have a dental :( (of course she will have it if needed of course!)

Good luck to Rosie when its time for her dental. I was very surprised at how well Mottle came round from his. Hope she copes well with the ga. x

Aww fingers crossed for Rosie. I've no idea what it's like to have a dental bunny, but I do know it's a horrible worry when they stop eating for whatever reason xx

I hope Rosie feels better soon. Even small spurs can be really sore, and the vet can't see clearly when the bun is conscious so there may be more spurs hidden.

Unfortunately genetics can play a part with needing dentals.. is Rosie a lop?

Thank you everyone - yes she is a lop silverrabit

It's just frustrating when you do everything your supposed to and are strict about what they can/can't have and then they still get problems anyway!

Hopefully she'll be better when I get home :)

My Timmy was a Dutch rabbit and a total hay monster, yet he needed regular dentals from when he was 2 years old - just the luck of the draw I guess. Just the tiniest spur would be enough to stop him from eating.

I hope Rosie recovers quickly if she does need a dental and fingers crossed its a one-off xxx
