  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Nails!

KMOOS

New Kit
My bunnys paw started bleeding and she had broke a nail. On further inspection her small toenail is completely red. She wont let me touch it and it looks like its filled with blood. What should I do? I've never had health problems with her before and when I trimmed her nails last week it was fine.

It's not uncommon for them to catch them, which sometimes means the nail breaks off short or falls off completely (it grows back). If the toe nail is hanging off at a weird angle that might catch/hurt or the bleeding won't stop or she's limping then it's a vet trip. If it's just a little sore looking but otherwise okay then it will probably heal fine on its own, though of course if you're worried see a vet.

Thanks

If it doesn't fall in two days I will take her to a vet I was just concerned because she has never not let me take care of her before. She always lets me fix her u when she is in pain, but maybe bunny knows best for right now
