How much is your Petplan insurance, mine is £184 for one bunny, seems expensive!

My most expensive (ie no multi-pet discount) is 5 year old Esme at £168.
£90 excess. ... her most recent vet bill (only one this policy year) was £93!

I've got four (under two years old) insured with them at £40.86 per month and a £55 excess. Covered for life :thumb:

(I've already made a claim for around £300 within the first month)

£178 for Herbie with Petplan. He is over 5 now.

£92 for Hollie on Helpucover. She is only about 2 or 3.

I have my three (Slipper, Badger & Blueberry) insured with Petplan, it's £10 per bunny per month, lifetime cover. I can't remember the excess of the top of my head, but I've not had to claim off them so far (touch wood).

Blackavar is going with Helpucover, fingers crossed, which is identical to Petplan, but £10 cheaper excess and a bit cheaper per month. I've been quoted about £7 per month for Blackavar, they're just checking his medical history with the vet before they confirm due to the care he needed when I first got him.

Each of mine are around a tenner a month with petplan, but I've only ever claimed once and that was Clouds stasis episode. All of mine are still under 5 as well.

I only have one bunny insured since Gemma sadly went to the Bridge. George costs £13.76 a month which seems expensive as I have never claimed. Gemma was the same and my excess was £78 when I claimed for her.

I will be insuring Violet too but think I may change companies if I can find someone cheaper. My last direct debit was returned by the bank as I had insufficient funds:oops:

£21.76/mo for the pair of them, no idea what the break down is.

Biscuit's last bill was nearly £500 (first time he's ever really needed major care)
Ginger's total bill over the past 12 months (policy 12 months) is over £1000.

They put the policy up by £1.80 odd this year. I'm happy with that!

We have 9.99 a month with 50 excess per bunny with helpucover. One recently died and we've just claimed quite a chunk for the cost to bring the second back to health (*just* got her to the vet in time). It also comes with an advice line that was able to suggest a rabbit savvy vet who coped with us turning up in a panic out of hours and did a great job.

I pay £6.05 for each of my two bunnies with helpucover.co.uk. I also got £24 for each of the policies in Quidco cashback. The policy has lifetime cover and has a £50 excess. I've already made a claim for £572 without any issues with the company.

Not sure why mine is so expensive! She is only 2 and never claimed. I can't claim for digestion issues but that's it.

I've been quoted £93.72 with helpucover. I guess they are good too.

Did you not have to claim for her illness last year? Or declare it at this years renewal? That might be why it so much for her.

If i was you id call up and say the renewal is far too expensive and ask what they are going to do about price before you go elsewhere (obviously asking nicely). - i dont have pet insurance (4 horses and 4 bunnies, so odds are that any vets costs will cost me less than insurance each year (touch wood) - its worked so far anyway) but i do this trick every year with my car insurance. For the last 5 years the same insurer has been by far the cheapest for me and i ring up say its too expensive (even though its already the cheapest) and they always drop a hundred or more off my price!

No wasn't covered when it started unfortunately. I have declared it but all that happens is I'm not covered for anything to do with digestion, the policy doesn't go up.

Helpucover doesn't cover dental for 2 years so since the digestion claim is out which is a lot to do with bunnies, I want to be covered for dental. I'm seeing Mark the specialist on Tuesday so will see what he thinks about her teeth and if it's worth risking waiting.

Petsathome are a set fee of £90 and cover dental and excess is £75 plus 10% of the remaining balance, up to £1,500 in claims. Exotics direct only pay 50% of dental.

I have called and said it is too high but they didn't discount it they said they can't.

Have you tried to do a new quote online with them? Then call and say if you do a quote as a new customer its only X, so as a loyal customer youd expect cheaper, not more expensive? I did it that way with home insurance and they did beat the new online quote.

I wonder if even though they exclude her digestive system, due to her previous digestive issues, they also deem her higher risk to insure? I.e if shes had digestive problems they think shes more likely to get other health problems? Like if you have a no blame claim on car insurance, whilst you keep your no claims bonus your "risk" is deemed higher so you pay more at you next renewal.

I wouldn't think this is worth trying for pet insurance. If car insurance goes up next year then you can just move to a cheaper insurer but with pet insurance if you claim then a condition is covered by that insurer but you can't just move to another insurer the way you can with car/home insurance as that condition wouldn't then be covered... and if the premium goes up next year to what you were previously quoted then you are stuck with it anyway.
*sorry this was answered while I was typing this anyway!*

In Rudy's case I had him covered with Pet Plan but he was excluded for dental, eye, facial abscesses (because of one dental aged 1, now 6!) he was also excluded for everything gastrointestinal as all this happened before I got insurance. I moved him to P@H because it was much cheaper, the fact it was less cover didn't seem relevant seeing as he had all the main items excluded anyway! I chickened out and moved him back to PP just before his 5th birthday. I've since claimed for the liver torsion he had a couple of months ago.
