Poorly Maurice :( UD: Coming home :D

Bluesmum

Wise Old Thumper
Maurice has been in stasis since yesterday morning :(

They're both staying at the vets cause I can't syringe feed him on my own....he very much objects to it, and it's just me and kids at home for the next week.

He's had to have a buster cone on because he keeps trying to pull the cannula out of his ear (they're giving him IV fluids every 2hours) He's also on metacam, metaclop and zantac

There's nothing he's telling us about, there's no pain reaction from anywhere (back/hips/feet), no blockage in his tummy or anything. He had xrays last week which showed his molar roots are starting to grow into his jaw...but he has no spurs at all.

Just got back from visiting them...took a basil and a mint plant and a box of other goodies. Gave him a fuss and got a wash from Marnie  He's very cross....so I suggested they take his shame-cone off so he can give himself a groom...he's a very fussy bunny Also I think he struggles to get to something to eat with it on. While I was there he ate a basil leaf....which is the first thing he's eaten on his own for at least 36hours. Fingers crossed we're on the way back up now he's taking his metacam orally now too which is good.

I'm just terrified it's his molar roots causing the problems. Is there anything we can do if it is? He's already on a very high dose of metacam andhe doesn't react well to tramadol.

Any advise/vibes would be very much appreciated for my grumpy little man.

Thanks everyone.

It feels so weird and quiet without them here.....but Maurice is in the best place...and the best place for Marnie is with her Man

Everyone at the vets thinks its lovely the way they are together, one of the nurses said that if I ever wanted to rehome them then she would have them....I told her that it would be a snowy day in hell  Luckily she knew what I meant and didn't take offence

I'm sorry to hear that Maurice isn't feeling too good, sending lots of vibes and hugs and hope he makes an extra speedy recovery xx

Oh gosh I am so sorry to hear this -

I know you have asked for a box of noms but the courier does take a few days so I think I will try and get something smaller sent first class tomorrow for him . . . we can sort the box of noms later.

I shall try and send apple leaves and willow leaves and perhaps some cow parsley and hawthorn? will see what weights one can send first class.

PS if its molar roots they can be extracted by a skilled specialist vet.

I just sent you a pm

That would be amazing if you could...let me know how much It costs and I'll send it all together. Anything you think will help...I have no idea about plants

It'll be a trip back to JC then....How will we know what it is causing the problems though?

I have looked at first class postage options - I can send small package first class Royal Mail (no more than 35cm by 25cm by 16cm) for £7; and then a can follow that up with my normal forage box which will take a few days to arrive via courier (will pick for collection on Weds) so suspect will arrive Fri/Sat -

I would donate it to Maurice and you but things are very tight here at present as Coltsfoot is going in for yet another molar op on Weds .

Xrays should help but tbh the only way of knowing if its pain related is to use a painkiller and see if the problem temporarily goes away - have you tried Ketamine? I have found it wonderful for buns.

thats ok - will ensure the packet goes asap 1st thing tmw -

I really do recommend ketamine as a superb painkiller for intense pain - though I know Jacks jane doesn't like it - but Parsley swore by it - as did Damson for his kidney stones.

It's definitely something I'll suggest and consider. How is it administered? Weirdly enough I'm watching a program about drug misuse....and they're discussing ketamine

Injection - its not something you would use for more than a couple of days but would be very worthwhile to see if it helps - as that would indicate a pain cause.
