Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Young Bun
Hi all,

Just wanted to see people's thoughts on qurantine. Im about to have two rabbits from my sister in law as she hasn't got time for them atm. They are going to live in my utility room, my two buns have full run of rest of the house. The new buns aren't vaccinated and one of them has had resp problems last year or early this year (cant remeber exactly). I am going to section some of the utility off so there is very minimal risk of my two buns coming into contact. But in wondering how strict I should be with quarantine? I assume wash my hands after touching and handling the new buns? Also i will get them vaccinated next week. Although hubby really wont be happy im spending money on new buns.

Obviously my buns health is my priority but im so keen on giving these buns a nice life as they have been pretty overlooked all their life. So any tips/pointers would be so greatly appreciated!

I think that washing hands between rabbits is a good idea - use a good antibacterial hand wash. I would also extend that to washing hands after coming into contact with food and water bowls, litter trays etc.

Maybe a separate pair of shoes so that you don't take anything from one room to another on your feet. If you have an apron then that would stop you carrying anything on your clothes to but is probably not strictly necessary - it's just safer that way. If I have an infected animal I always use plastic disposable aprons when working with them.
