  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Cuttlefish panic

Ok sorry to be annoying but I was sorting the snails out and washed their cuttle fish bone and when I shaked it off the water amd shards flicked over all my pile of clean clothes that I am taking with me. If I wear them will it ne dangerous for Jims and Cookie cause I come back at weekends so may be wearing an item from that pile.

Would it be safe to eat? Fish products are totally unnatural to rabbits thougg?

My rabbits live in the same room as my bird, they've actually eaten bits of bird food and I'm sure Charlie once tried to take a bite out of the cuttlefish... It's not dangerous. Yeah don't feed it as a treat, but tiny bits of it in drops of water that have dried aren't even worth thinking about.

Cuttlefish bone is actually very safe. My chinchillas eat it for extra calcium every now and then and they are very similar to rabbits. It's certainly safe for rabbits although I wouldn't 'feed' it to them a few shards won't do any harm at all. It might even give them healthy bones.
