Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Headtilt remedies?

Anna_bee

New Kit
Currently my lop rabbit is suffering from head tilt and possible inner ear inection. His head tilt isnt servere but slightly noticable.

Hes been prescribed Panacur for 28days, Baytril for a week and Metacam for a week also.

Do the baytril and metacam measurements sound right?

I just wondered as the Panacur is given for alomst a month..

Thanks :)

Panacur is an anthelmintic given to address the possible issue of Encephalitozoon Cuniculi (EC) which can also cause head tilt.

Baytril is an antibiotic, prescribed to address a bacterial infection. In my experience one week of treatment is seldom if ever long enough when dealing with an ear infection. Sometimes a more 'heavy duty' antibiotic, or a combination of antibiotics is required.

Metacam is a non steroidal anti inflammatory given to reduce inflammation and pain be it from a bacterial infection or 'active' EC. Duration of use will depend on various factors and risks v benefits.
