Rabbit Specialists nearest to Northamptonshire?

sonnet

Alpha Buck
Please can anyone give me contact details of any Rabbit Specialists that are as close to Northamptonshire as possible as Dylan is an horrendous traveller!

Also if the specialist does phone consultations with Vets?

Looking very likely my Vet is going to refer Dylan so need Specialist details ASAP please. Thank you!

Are you not going to the rabbit and cat clinic now?

I am guessing Birmingham is too far?

There is a vet in Milton keynes with a special interest in rabbits but i wouldn't say she is better than the cat and rabbit clinic

The Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic in Duston, Northampton. But we've already talked about it :?.

They are still a definite possibility but when my vet mentioned 'specialists' I didn't know if the 'Cat & Rabbit Clinic' would be classed as this, as they are a smaller practice & have less diagnostic equipment than other specialists in theory...

Yes, I'd agree with that BUT you couldn't get anyone more experienced in bunnies than Simon. A specialist referral vets would be somewhere like Moulton College in Northampton where I took Parsnip when he broke his leg. However, they are NOT bunny specialists - there is a difference.

ETA the vets I was referred to at Moulton College were Abington Park Vets http://www.abingtonvets.co.uk/referring-vets/

The closest actual specialist referral i can think of is manor vets which is Birmingham way. Unless you are extremely lucky you have to travel for a specialist rabbit referral x

Yes I appreciate that, it's just he hates travelling :(

Cambridge Veterinary Group has been recommended to me though which at a push is doable distance wise.

True & as I said I still might end up going to see Simon, even if I eventually am forwarded on to someone else :thumb:

My vets wanted to refer Harvey to a rabbit specialist and I asked if they could refer him to Simon at the Cat and Rabbit Clinic, the vet quickly looked up the practices and called and checked if they took referrals, which they do, so the vet is getting a 2nd opinion on X-rays from Simon and have referred him to him. Everyone on here really praises him :)

That's great to hear :thumb:When is Harvey going to see Simon?

Not sure yet, my vets are going to call me tomorrow to tell me what Simon's second opinion is and what I need to do. Simon will have Harvey's X-rays so there's a chance he might be able to say what course of treatment Harvey needs to my vets and then they can go through it with me, or if they can't I'll go and see Simon myself and he can go through it all. If Harvey needs an op I'll definitely be asking Simon to do it though, although I'm hoping we'll get his problem under control with medication!

Threads like this make me realise just how lucky I am that Simon and Kim are my regular bunny and piggy vets. Just be aware that as they are only a 2 man practice AND they have children, they often take holiday during half term, which is coming up at the end of October. And once every 4 years, they go to Australia for a month as that's where Kim's from. I dread that month :( - especially since last time, Simon fell off his son's skateboard/scooter and broke his leg and couldn't fly home for AGES!!!

That isn't true at all, both Simon and Kim are the best rabbit vets ever, how could they not be, when for the main rabbits are all they see. Be careful with a lot of your so called specialists especially any at Bristol, because I have messaged a number of people on the forum that were seeing so called 'Specialists' who were sending CAT scans to America to be read (Simon scans and reads his own, so you get an instant diagnosis) scans that get sent to USA take about a week to be read and returned, and so all you are getting back really is a week old out of date scan, that I don't really see how that can be any good to anyone

Also, Simon has seen a number of bunnies from on here that have all seen your 'Specialists' but still failed to get a correct diagnosis, and all bunnies then were looking at being pts. They have all seen Simon now and recovered fully because the previous vets had got it all wrong.

Don't forget with a small very specialised practice, everyone, nurses, receptionists etc as well as Simon and Kim, all get to know your bunnies really well, and know exactly what is going on with them, what they like, don't like etc, and whenever I go to see them with one of my buns it is like visiting my buns extended family.

When I lost my ultra special bunny Roger to a brain tumour last year, my appointment was at 1600hrs, and Roger left at 2102hrs, after I had been given a private room, endless cups of tea, people keep checking on us, everyone coming in to make a fuss of Roger and say goodbye, and give him lots of treats.

The clinic had been closed over an hour and I didn't even realise it was so late and pitch black, and so then said to Simon I was ready, and he still talked everything through with me, had another look at Roger and gave him a big fuss, and you have no idea how much all that meant to me, or sorry, maybe you do, but the fact that Roger wasn't just pts in an appointment slot and then Simon moved straight on to the next patient, which I know is the norm, but Roger wasn't the norm, and it meant the world that Simon supported me and gave me all that time with my best mate, Roger.

Simon really is the 'Bunny King' and myself and others are so very lucky to be part of 'Team Simon' and know that our bunnies have really got the best care ever :thumb:

It's difficult isn't it? Simon isn't the ONLY decent rabbit vet in the country. There are several others who RU members go to who have an outstanding reputation with bunnies (and piggies) and who also take referrals. I hope you get to see someone, whoever that may be, who can do the absolute best for your bunny.

They are also very good. Speak to parsnip bun about them.

Now your vet is talking about specialists would they be willing to speak to a specialist vet themselves to get guidance on what to do next? We have been lucky that our vets do this a lot to save our buns traveling. Mark Rowlands at trinity vets in Kent and d1ck veterinary school have been extremely helpful to us and are excellent with rabbits
