Rupert's first dental today :(

Rupert & Tia

Mama Doe
Following on from Rupert's recent tummy issues, he started to act 'not himself' last night, so rather than wait for the gas, I took him to the vet (before it turned to emergency times!) and he's got a spike slightly touching his tongue on the left... it may be the cause, it may not (is it coincidence that he's only ever poorly when its heavy rain?!?!?!?!?), but it will rule it out - if he never gets poorly again, then we know its his teeth, if he does get poorly again, we've ruled out teeth issues.
I feel sick, Tia has gone too to keep him company, and I've taken their litter tray, hay basket, water bowl, treats, pellets and few toys (haha they had three bags full).

Can I have some vibes for him please? They're my world x

I will keep you posted, I have to call at 2 for an update.

Good luck Rupert! I know how you feel, one of my buns is being spayed today  hate sending them off to the vets.

Best of luck. Mottle had 2 tooth spurs. Was fine within a day. Hope it goes really well and they settle back together and Rupert eats well

Sending millions of vibes for Rupert. Mr B is having a dental today too. Its become routine for him unfortunately. Don't worry though my girl only needs one once a year.

Hopefully he will be home and feeling better soon.

Thank you. I don't know if its the cause or not... I had to note all his 'episodes' down last night - he's had 7 that needed vets, so now the vet has set me up with a bunny medicine cabinet at home - metacam, emperid (which the dose says 1.1ml ?? the metoclopramide dose he was given was 0.4!).

He went from March - August without issue, but then had one in sept then yesterday, but yday was different - no gas, but he just wasn't himself, he was eating but his poops were tiny and a bit wet looking, he was eating straw from their bed which he NEVER does and he was just nibbling at hay and he was grunting and lunging at john which he never does except when he's poorly, although he gave me cuddles, like properly cuddled into me (not like him), glad I caught it before the gas.

He was fine this morning. I'm now wishing I'd told her to xray his abdomen while he's under GA but she may do that anyway.

Is it a coincidence that the last three times (can't remember before these times) that it was raining heavily!? I don't know. Good job the bosses are out at work cos i just can't concentrate :-/

It does sound typical dental, the same as Mr B. He chews his willow mat but not food, started getting a slightly wet dirty bottom and smaller poos, if I left it any longer his poos end up very small. Rupert may have started to slow down his eating over a few days, nothing too obvious. It easy for me to moniter Mr B as he is single.

Mr B weighs on average 2.4 kilos and has 1.5 to 2 mls of Emeprid twice a day, when needed. Emeprid is metrocloprimide isn't it, I don't know if they are slightly different.

I haven't noticed his eating slowing down, certainly not with pellets anyway but like you say if its really slow I wouldn't really notice with having two... He's not shown any pain symptoms til last night, but least these spikes will be sorted, I hope it is the problem and its nothing more serious (if that makes sense). He's 2.2kg I thought they were the same too but the emergency vet gave us instructions to give 0.4, I've got a whole bottle of metacam now and 10mls of emperid, and i'm to give him infacol as soon as he starts looking poorly too, she said none of it will do him any harm.

I hope Mr B is ok, its not been long since his last dental has it?

Thevet said she has one pair of bunnies (nethies) who are siblings and one is absolutely fine, but the other needs dentals monthly! She said its more common in 'specialist' breeds than 'normal' rabbits - but Rupes is a cross, he's dutch colourd, but silky like a rex and has the build of an english spot so who knows. But im convinced he was a pet shop bunny, nbought for christmas then got 'bored' of. he was found at the end of january, and he wasn't an adult like the rspca thought - he's grown into his ears and adult bunnies don't do that and he's got longer not just filled out like they thought he would.

2 hours until i can ring for update! i hope he can come home today and will be fine x

I have had metrocloprimide in the past but it was used up and thrown away so not sure what the dose was. I know they are both gut stimulants, maybe one is a dog one and the other a cat one. I tried to google but not that much information on what dose to give rabbits.

The problem with dental issues is that they can seem fine until they get the spur pain and as it gets worse the symptoms slowly start, then suddenly they stop eating. I know when Cutie-pie has hers, she is fine in herself, hungry looking but not able to eat, her poos are fine too. She also recovers the same day as the dental, unlike Mr B who takes a week to recover.

Nethies are prone to dental problems unfortunately. Mr B is part Nethie. Cutie-pie is a mini lop.

Hopefully not to long to wait now.

Rupesy is through his GA and op, and is doing fine... he's still a bit sleepy, but I can go pick them up at 6 :D can't wait to see their furry little faces!

Great news. Mr B has had his too but the spurs were worse than what was expected and he has a sore tongue again. :(

I've just been reading your post - awww im glad hes round, hope he gets better soon!

The vet said to give rupes a little bit of pineapple juice incase his tummy has slowed and theres fur as he's moulting so im going shoppping for his favourite bits after work :love:I can't wait to see them both!!! I don't know what they found yet as vet was busy but i'll find out when i have a chat. xx

He had mushy pellets last night and was eating a few normal pellets.... he started drinking, and was picking at hay (seemed like soft bits). I was told no veg so just let him eat pellets (thought at least he's eating something!) he had a few horrible wet poops and was going to patio doors, and trying to go into kitchen (to go to bed in shed) so at midnight we let them in shed, with soft hay (easypack stuff i get for their litter trays) and more pellets. We waited til we'd seen him have more poos before we let him though. We made sure he could get up and down the stairs in the house before even considering letting him in shed though, and he jumped on my back to show me he could jump.
I couldn't get him to take emperid at all, so gave him the 0.4 of metoclopramide, he loves that and will take loads of it. He wouldn't take his metacam but i put it on pellets and he had it that way - do you know if metacam can be given more than once a day? the vet said once a day but when I picked him up they said every 6 hours (like the emperid).
This morning he'd done a few poops in litter tray in shed, and was eating the soft hay, he came out of the shed and had a bit of grass (but not much) and more pellets (he's milking this pellets thing i think), and took his metoclop no bother and metacam.
I did see him eating a bit of ings this morning. Tia is looking after him (once she finished stealing his mushed pellets  ) seen her washing his ears this morning

Vets said stick with 0.4 of metoclop.... she said its predominantly the same drug but obviously must be some difference. We have an apt at 5.45 on monday with the vet so we'll find out then i guess (and i might get her to swap the emperid for metoclop cos he loves metoclop!
He's looking sad and abit sorry for himself bless him. He's looking a bit brighter this morning though.

How is Mr B this morning?
