Today I met Frances Harcourt Brown!!! Took 3hrs to drive up there but she was FABULOUS!!!! As many will know poor Coltsfoot has had dreadful struggles in his life (in brief: rspca case, neglect, then unfortunately time in rescue with a vet who wasnt really able to deal with his awful problems, then to us and finally lots of teeth out, tongue stitched back together - had been literally severed in half - progress on his self-harming etc etc . then weight gain and fur regrowth etc etc . . then alas downhill again after several good months . . . and then most recent dental did not help and he has got much worse . . . . )

So we agreed with our vets to try FHB (as out specialist rabbit surgeon vet has left for Aberdeen!!!!!!) . . and we all have our fingers crossed that she will be able to put him under GA and find out what is wrong again . . .

He is very high risk but its all we can do

But she is amazing!!!!! SO SO SO good at handling him and looking at him and thinking through the issues etc etc

Now we cross all our fingers and paws for him . . .

She's great. We're lucky she's only an hour away. She worked wonders on Scarlet's teeth.

Good luck Coltsfoot, you're in safe hands.

From what I have read on here about FHB he is in the best hands. I wish we had someone like her in America.
All the best and brightest wishes for Coltsfoot. xxxx :)

Sorry to hear your trusted vet has moved so far away. 3 hours is certainly a trek but I'm sure was worth it.

Any news on Coltsfoot?

Thank you for asking -

Under anaesthetic he was xrayed and it was found his (very thin) jaw was fractured in the area a molar was extracted about 6 weeks ago - she also did some more 'repair' work to the nightmare that is his teeth and jaws. He is now able to eat soaked food.

Unfortunately although it is now a bit better his skin is still an issue and he is still licking it and making it sore despite being on slow release pain killer patches etc

He is having another sedation tomorrow (very worrying) to do a skin biopsy to rule our allergies and infections or other oddities, and also to shave the fur round his mouth and paws (they shaved some off last week) to give it all a fresh chance.

We are very very much hoping to have him back on Thursday. he has been away over a week now.

I am worried about him having another sedation.

I'm sure when she gets a rabbit like him she will be absolutely determined to get to the cause of the problems so he can have the life you want for him. I hope between you that you can find a way of giving Coltsfoot the happy life he deserves.
