Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

liquidised food

Is it o.k. to use a syringe to feed a dental bun?
She's having an operation in two days and is on metacam. She had little munches yesterday but today is more reluctant. Yesterday I fed her pellet juice on a spoon which seemed to inspire her appetite - a while after she'd had metacam giving it time to work. So after a night without pain relief I'm thinking her mouth may be hurting again. Tried to syringe her first dose of metacam today and couldn't tell if it went in but there was no evidence of spillage.

edit: am thinking of liquidizing some grass along with pellets and perhaps apple and carrot.

Thoughts please.

I would just use liquidised pellets as a syringe feed :)

Is she pooing OK ?

Can the Dental be bought forward to tomorrow ?

Thanks for your valued advice - I'll keep her juice simple. Vet said her pooh's looked normal which is a good thing. Have just spoon fed her some pellet juice, which although dribbled she started to clean her fur. Unfortunately will be difficult to change her appointment...:(

I now realize there's a strange behavioral complication.....After being on diets her male partner grooms her incessantly on one hand and then chases her away. She was actually eating a strand of hay and he almost turned on her except that I gave him a peaflake as a distraction. It's like he wont let her eat and is guarding the food supply for himself. I'm wondering if there's a psychological angle to this on her behalf.

Have devised a water feeder diluted with dissolved pellets.
