  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vaccination timing question

Our vet is going away for a month during the time ours buns need their vacs. Should we do them 3weeks early, three weeks late or use the locum? I like William, our vet to give the, a good general looking over which is why I,m not certain about a locum.

I'd do them 3 weeks early as long as they are all healthy :)

I'd do them three weeks late. Immunity doesn't expire on the day the jabs are due and I'd rather do it a bit late than over-vaccinate and do it early. But that's just my opinion, especially since I've just read a very interesting article by the World Small Animal Veterinary Association about vaccination in dogs and cats.

I would definitely do it early, because there are some outbreaks throughout the country at the moment apparently, and I was just thinking that if you did them late, and they were unfortunate enough to catch something, and if they are insured, doing them late would give your insurance company the perfect opt out clause for not paying out, because they could argue that they were not vaccinated, and I guess that technically they would be right.
