Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit dental disease

Hi all,

Not sure if this is the most appropriate section to put this in as it is more reference material but I found this on my vets website and thought it might have some interesting pointers for people interested in rabbit dental disease.

I'm really quite fortunate to live so close to Manor Vets and I have been taking my pet rats to Marie Kubiak for a few years so when I started owing rabbits it was a welcome surprise when I found out that she is a bit of a rabbit specialist.

Anyway, hope that someone finds this link useful!

That's what Ellie's abcess looked like bless her it was huge :( her teeth are so awful, don't know how much longer she'll cope.

Thank you for sharing. :)

My soul bunny Lola had severe dental disease, she had one upper right molar which was effectively a stump, hence nothing for the lower teeth to grind down against :(

Thank you for posting this. It's the best description of rabbit dental disease I've seen.

Marie is an outstanding rabbit vet.
She cared for my Thumper when she was in Swindon, & gave him an extra 3 years of good life. He needed dentals every month for very minor spurs, but had such severe incurable GI disease that the slightest oral discomfort could put him into stasis.
He was stasis free under her care.

Thanks for sharing. I'm going to add the link to the Old Useful Topics sticky in the Health section too, so the info can be easily found again. :D
