Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bite? :( UD abscess?

Does this look like a typical bite (I am guessing so, as I am trying to bond!). What should I do with it? Does it need the vets or can I clean it at home?
I've just found it on Tully - it's quite dried so at least several hours old :( Can try to get some better photos soon when OH is back.

Yes it looks like a bite to me.

If its dry I would be tempted to no wash it thoroughly, just maybe rinse it with saline or the like and watch it very closely. I don't think it needs vet attention as there isn't much they could do. Besides precautionary antibiotics... Which seems a bit over the top.

I *personally* would just watch it closely. If it swells in the next few days then pop along to the vets as rabbits are terrible for getting abscesses on wounds!

I'd carefully trim off as much surrounding fur as possible and the flush the wound thoroughly with a saline solution. If it is just a superficial lesion (hard to be sure from the photo) then it should be OK, but if there is a true puncture wound the risk of infection/abscess is much greater.

Thank you both. I will enlist OH as soon as he gets back and see if we can get a better look and clean up.
Suspect that may be the end of this bonding attempt :(

:( on closer inspection, what I thought was dried blood matted in the fur appears to be a lump under the skin. Is this an abscess?
If so, how quickly could it have developed? I would say it is roughly just a bit smaller than a 5p piece.
