  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Update: Bunny is now home and seems a lot better. He is eating and poo-ing normally :)

All in all a very good update!

Spare some thoughts for my little boy, Bunny, who I am about to rush to the vets.

He is refusing food (incredibly unusual), pressing his tummy and acting like he's uncomfortable.

It is difficult to measure poo output because I clean every morning and he did poo yesterday. But so far none this morning.

Please spare a thought for him because I am worried sick.

I have just got home.

They have kept him in to give him fluids, Zantac, pain relief.

She sensed some gas and what she thinks is the beginning of stasis. She said there was nothing that noticeable in the mouth.

She asked me if he had eaten anything unusual - I said no.

He was absolutely terrified and was so dopey - very unusual for him. He has been to the vets before and is always very bouncy.

Praying he will be okay. Will call later for an update.

So very worrying when they become poorly - Poor Bunny :( sending recover quick ((((((((vibes)))))))):love::love:

I have just had an update from the vet.

She said after the pain relief set in he began eating which is obviously good. She noted that the gas seems to have reduced.

However she did say that she can feel what she thinks could possibly be a liver abscess. She is not 100% sure as she would want to sedate and scan to check. She said that if this 'thing' doesn't go down in size she will want to investigate further. She told me a liver abscess can be fatal

She is keeping a close eye on him and will update me again later.

I can't believe this is happening to him.
