  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I've just got home from work to find my buns litter tray has diorhea in it. The only thing she's had different was an orange segment last night. Needles to say she won't be having that again! She's very happy and bouncy and she's eating her hay. Her poos seem better now pellet shaped although still a bit wet and very big.
Obviously if it continues I'll take her to the vet but any advice in the mean time? Should I leave her veggies tonight our just cut them down a bit? Any advice would be welcomed
Rachel xx

I would only feed hay and water for 24 hours

If she is still passing diarrhoea then she needs to see a Vet tonight

I've only seen pellets so far but have cleaned her tray out so will keep a eye on it. Thank you x

I think citrus fruits can be too acidic and upset the rabbits digestion. As you said I wouldn't feed them again, or any other citrus fruits. As Jane says vets if there any more, hopefully it was a one off.

I did check to see if rabbits could eat it before I gave it to her and it said orange was fine. Poor little bun x

Aww hopefully it was a one off - obviously orange doesn't agree with your bun! At least you didn't give her any more.
