Mrs Millicent Humphries went for a second opinion this morning, not good news

Hugo's There

Wise Old Thumper
Our vet felt there was nothing more they could do for Millicent and while we realistically know the prognosis is poor long term we felt she still had enough fight in her to get her a second opinion with a rabbit expert.

Sadly that vet also felt the same as our vet :( I have only had a short text message from Steve, but they agreed with our vet that an operation was not appropriate and the out look is very poor for Millicent  They spoke about quality over quantity which I am very grateful for as that is so important to the running of Rainbow Rabbits. I do worry that sometimes specialists will do something just because they can so I am grateful that they see the quality of life as so much more important than invasive treatment, even when it means Millicent will not have much time left with us.

Steve and Millicent are on their way home now so I should get more details soon. At least we know we have tried everything for her.

Poor Millicent, she is such a lovely friendly cuddle bun. I just wish we could have known her sooner and then we have had a different outcome :(

I'm so sorry that its not a better outcome, but as you say it's best that your vets know when not to do something. Given how much people rely on vets opinions I do feel that some are all about the money rather than the animal.

Wishing Mrs Millicent Humphries as many more days as she wishes for, and happy ones at that. Please pass on some nose rubs for me.

((((hugs)))) for you xxx

So sad . I know you will make the final chapter of her life a happy and loving time so she knows that she was loved. Gentle nose rubs to Millicent.

Thank you both xxx

Ok so Millicent is home and not at all bothered by all the fuss. She is on daily Duphapen injections for two weeks and needs to be reassessed in a weeks time. It is palliative care not a cure so only time will tell if she responds and gets a little extra time. Her second ear is also starting to form an abscess. It does seem we just got to it too late to be able to treat it properly and the infection has well and truly set in On the plus side the vet couldn't believe how friendly and chilled Millicent is. She gave her ear a good old squeeze, Millicent shook her head and a lump of pus hit the notice board!! Also the consult, meds, needles and syringes only cost the grand total of £42. Lets hope we can keep Millicent happy and comfortable for a little longer, she certainly has the right personality bless her

Last night her injection was a disaster as her skin is so tough but thankfully it all went smoothly on my second attempt this morning. Hopefully we can get her infection a bit more under control

Loads of thoughts and vibes for Millicent - I know that her remaining time with you will be the best time of her life and that you'll do whatever is best/

(have to say I don't know how you continue to do what you do - the emotions alone would have sent me doo lally a long time ago - I really admire you and Steve).

Lots of love to mrs M. She sounds such a lovely little rabbit. I remember her thread. A beautiful girl

Millicent is back at her special vet this morning. Personally I can't see any improvement yet so I am hoping they see something positive that I can't..........

Sending vibes for Millicent. I know you'll make whatever time she has left the best possible for her. xxx

Ooh sorry. The vet thinks there is a small improvement :) the second abscess that was starting to develop in her other ear hasn't. We will still never cure it but each small improvement buys her a bit more time :)

Going back again next week

Good news that the second abscess is no worse. Sending vibes that she remains as comfortable as possible. xx
