Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Flopsy has a poorly toe/nail.

Flopsy has somehow managed to catch his toe nail on something and it has now bent right up :(*.
I have no clue what he would of caught it on or how it got pushed so far up, He will let me examine it and I believe his toe is ok although I am not a vet so can't confirm that it is not fractured or broken but to me it seems like it's just the nail.

He does not seem to be in any pain or discomfort, His metacam controls most of his pain so he should be OK for now, I hope. *

I just hope it does not get infected, There is no open wound or cuts so hopefully should be ok.

Here is his poor little nail.

I am going to email JC my vet with the photo and see what he suggests. We will obviously go on Tuesday to get it sorted out.

Any Advice?

Sometimes older Rabbits do start to have odd nail growth on the outer toes. But it can also be that the nail gets caught and breaks but does not come off completely. If it is painless, the toe itself undamaged and the nail very stable it may just be how his nail has now started to grow.

ETA- Arthritic Rabbits can get odd nail growth too, due to abnormal weight bearing

Hope Flopsy will be ok. He's lucky to have a good owner who will keep an eye open for any signs of discomfort.

Jane's post is interesting, I didn't know this about older/arthritic rabbits.

Thank you for your post Jane, that is good to know -I never knew that before.

I suspect this is the reason for Flopsy's odd nail.

We are seeing JC tonight at 6pm and hopefully something can be sorted for him.

Thank you Susiebun for your reply.
