  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Worried about Otis :-(

When I went to give the boys their breakfast, Otis wasn't his usual self. It was like he'd forgotten everything. He ran upstairs and didn't come down for breakfast. When I put the run up and managed to get him out it was like he'd never been in it before! He was really tentative and sniffing everywhere instead of running round and chewing at the bars as he usually does. I rattled the treat jar which usually gets him giddy but nothing. I hand fed him some pellets which he ate fine and he's eaten some hay. He and Wilbur have been grooming each other as usual and he has been grooming himself. He doesn't seem overly stressed - just like he's forgotten who I am and where he is :-(.
I'm hoping when I get home from work he will have gone back to his usual mischievous, cheeky and sometimes grumpy self but I can't stop thinking about him.

Maybe. We do get the occasional cat wandering about. I hope it's just something like that and he'll cone round once he realises he's safe and he'll be ok. I'm waiting for my OH to get home and phone me with an update. Fingers crossed. I missed him this morning as silly as it sounds.
