  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi,
Millie underwent investigations a week ago for lumps and bumps around her tummy and chest area. She has alway been hormonal and I have had her booked in the vets several times to be spayed. The first time just after she came to live with us the vet said she was too fat. Then she had a phantom so he said it was too risky. Then she got the myxi. Then the vet cancelled due to unforseen circumstances.

Anyway good news in that the xrays didnt show up anything nasty. Biopsy of the lumps showed up that they were Mammary tissue. So she still needs to be spayed but its too risky while she is so hormonal so the vet is suggesting hormone implants to calm everything down first.
Has anyone had any experience of deslorin or supralorin ? thank you x

Yes, I have a neutered buck with an adrenal tumour. This causes the production of excess testosterone meaning that he feels and behaves like an entire buck. He has had 3 hormone implants, one every 6 months. The first 2 really helped but the third did not seem to work at all, we dont know why.
Different circumstances and it may be that a one off implant will do the trick for Millie and then the Vet will be able to spay her :)

Thank you. I read on the Internet that its not for female amimals. Alan the vet uses it on ferrets but never a bunny. I wwonder if an injection rather than an implant would suffice ?
