Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

strange skin problems

Hi all,
Has anyone seen anything like this before? It's a lump of dried skin all clogged together and underneath the skin is really raw and sore. Its right at the base of his tail where it joins his body, in that little crease.
The vet thought it was a bit of dermatitis due to the skin fold and we've tried baytril and hibiscrub bathing but its not really healed.

I've had another bunny have this before but can't remember if we solved it or not?

Thanks

No, not yet. She said try the bathing and abx and go back if not better. We have appointments on Wednesday for vaccinations (hopefully) so I'll see what she thinks.

Is fungal infections as in what you'd get in moist damp places? She'd mentioned it might be because of the folds of skin and the heat, so maybe that's it.

It's quite sore though. He won't let me bathe it now. Although its crusting over a bit now eewwww!

Thanks Jane
Xx
