Rescue specialising in large rabbits: NOW BRILLIANTY SOLVED

parsnipbun

Wise Old Thumper
I am trying to help get two female unneutered giants/very large rabbits out of a place where they are living in a 3.5ft double tier hutch together. Note size hutch and note very large rabbits with uppy ears. (except not uppy at present as no space to 'up')

Has anyone got the contact details of the person who used to take in giants (Kayj?) and do they know if she still does? I know there were some hard times for her.

We already have 35 plus a hare with us (several of which are special needs now) so although I am very very willing to help sort out, collect, and even keep for up to a week, I cannot offer rescue or permanent space and so need an onward trajectory for them before I can help them. Believe me they are crammed in like two peas in a very small pod at present.

Aw, I've been looking into getting giants, but I don't have the space for them at the moment (I have an 8 ft chicken coop so more space than they've got, but not enough), nor the funds immediately to get 2 girls neutered plus buy a bigger setup. I don't think my 2 girl house bunnies would be pleased to share their space with them either unfortunately. I hope they can get out of that sardine tin soon though.

apologies - PM box empty now - dont think I got a prompt to empty it for some reason.

Re anyone who thinks they can take them on - I will donate towards neutering.

I will talk to DH tonight Parsnipbun. But at the moment we wouldn't pass a rescue homecheck I'm pretty sure as the run can't be permanently attached securely to the chicken coop. We would need to buy something else.

I do have a (one storey) 5ft hutch you could have - its not the most fabulous quality but its fair and its newish condition and it could have some adaptations to join it to your coop for example? I could routle around to see if I have a bit of spare runaround pipe - though as they get bigger they may not fit down the pipe!!!!

Will PM

I would say Rabbit Residence but we can't take in any rabbits until September as holiday boarders have filled us up. We have the dimensions for giants but a waiting list. Females are always in demand though, albeit we are wary of rehoming Contis/Flemish types as finding the right sized homes is difficult and the two we have at the moment are residents, one with special needs.

If someone is able to hold them temporarily though Rabbit Residence could help after September possibly, you'd need to email them at rabbit_residence@hotmail.com.

Everywhere in this neck of the woods (herts/essex/cambs) is full to the brim at the moment.

Thanks - I am in contact with Caroline (and others from there) frequently about various things and I know she is well over limit at present with buns so did not approach her.

Hello, I replied to your PM before I read the rest of this thread! Yes perhaps we could attach the 2 hutches in some way. I probably need to trade in my DH for someone much better at DIY really! I will talk to him and get back to you.

DH has said yes, so if we can get the accommodation sorted we would love to have them.

OMG This is fabulous news!!!

Will PM you -

(feeling bit guilty as thread was actually for contacting a rescue - so should now in retrospect probably have been a thread in RIN which I am not allowed to post in - oops - apols to all moderators etc - but it seems like just serendipity!!!!)

Not a problem sounds like great news. If the offered home doesnt work out for any reason I am only about an hour from Kay and happy to help with a bunny run
