  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sparky has conjunctivitis

Hi everyone,

I've been having the week from hell. First on Monday Tali (the dog) had vomiting and diarrhoea so I had to take the day off work and take her to the vet and look after her. Then last night I noticed that one of Sparky's eyes didn't look right - it was really big and there seemed to be some discharge. Had to beg my boss to let me leave off early today to take him to the vets.

Anyway vet has examined him (including checking his teeth, although I know an x-ray is the only definitive way to make sure the teeth aren't an issue) and has diagnosed conjunctivitis, though it's only in his right eye and given us some eye drops that we need to give him for the next ten days. She would expect it to start clearing up within five days but if not he's going back for an x ray and possibly a dental.

Can't believe this week, it would all have to happen whilst my OH who normally works from home is on a course this week. On top of that we are in the middle of buying a house.
