  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Kicking out back legs

Warren Scout
Bojangles has been kicking out her back legs when she hops. Other than that, she is acting normal. She is binkying, doing her bunny flops, she always lays like a meatloaf. She is eating, drinking, and using the bathroom fine. She is playing with her cardboard boxes. What could be causing this?

Is she doing it all the time she hops ?

Can you post a video of what she is doing as it is not really possible for us to say what it may be without being able to see what she does

'Back Feet flicks' can be a sign of displeasure, after a Bunny has been picked up or something. But this is not usually a continuous thing, just a one off as the Rabbit is put back on the ground. They hop off and flick out their back feet as they go.

She is not doing it every time she hops. I will try to capture her on video. She is kicking out her back legs like she is trying to get feeling back in them (like when we have a limb fall asleep and we shake it out to get the feeling back.) I am probably being paranoid, but reading all of the horrible things that happen to some members rabbits and without warning, I am so terrified something will happen to her. I don't think it is displeasure because she is doing it if she moves from one place to another of her own free will.
