I'm so scared  He isn't as interested in food and is holding his back leg up but he is really wobbly when he walks. He has been my baby for 9 years and I'm scared this can't be fixed. Vibes please.:cry:

ETA: We are off to the vets in 30mins.

Oh goodness :( EC springs to mind when you mentioned his back leg and wobbliness, but really it could be many things. I hope you get some answers at the vets.

Loads and loads of vibes xxxxxx

What will it mean if it is that with him being an older bunny too, can it be treated?

Well I'm back from the vets but Milo isn't. :( They think he may have broken his back leg or at the very least dislocated it. The vet wanted a second opinion from a bone specialist who will be looking at him at 2. They are reluctant at the minute to xray due to anesthetic and his age. He really screamed when she checked his teeth, it was horrible. Can he survive and op at his age and is it fair to put him through one. Please advise?

If you have confidence in your vet I would follow their advice, I haven't had any experience with broken bones but I think I would be inclined to try, especially if there are no other options? I don't necessarily think age is that important with GA risk but condition is. My Gus is 8 and sailed though a GA to remove an abscess a few moths ago

I think it would depend on the type of fracture and the exact location. Also, if it is a fracture, whether it was the result of trauma or a pathogenic fracture due to another disease process.

I hope the Orthopod' can help Milo xx

The leg is badly broken and to what extent they won't know 100% without xray. The vet has given 2 options. PTS to avoid suffering or an operation following xray to see if it can be repaired . (£1000+) Is it fair after 9 good years for him to go through it as I know it's more for my sake that I want him to be okay.
I didn't take in the information as to where the break is as I was so upset on the phone but if it helps someone offer advice I can get hubby to call back.

There are so many factors to consider. Is he otherwise in very good health ? Is he an 'old' 9 year old Rabbit or is he still very spritely ?

I would discuss the issue of the actual cause of the fracture-ie is it likely to be trauma related or could it be pathogenic, meaning an underlying disease process is present ?

And obviously the financial aspect has to be considered, blunt but true and if he is not insured then is £1000 bill going to put you into a serious financial situation. It would me. I know people say 'its not about the money' but in reality sometimes it cant be totally ignored. Not all of us can access £1000 at the drop of a hat.

Will the Vet keep him stable on treatment overnight to give you and your OH more time to discuss things more ?
