Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Combined vaccine

Izzy hasn't had this before but she's getting it tomorrow. I forgot to ask the receptionist how much it cost, does anyone know? Also is there the risk of side effects like there is with the cylap VHD vaccine? Izzy's never been vaccinated against VHD before because all the vets near me use cylap and I was worried about the side effects.

I paid £39 for my bunnies vaccines. I'm not aware of any side effects and all my buns (5) have been perfectly fine with it.

Mine included a full health check as well.

This was the first year my lot had the combined vaccine, only (I say only, but one was too much as it was scary) 1 out of 12 had a reaction and developed nodules over his nose, ears and eyes a week after vaccination. They took a few weeks to go down but he was totally fine in himself so I don't think he felt ill and the vet regularly checked him over.

ETA I got discount as had a lot of buns to do, but my vets normally charge £38 for combined or £22 per single

The combined seems much much less likely to cause reactions. Scamp had a bad one with the cylap but was fine with the combined :)

I paid £42 yesterday. Muchu is absolutely fine with the combi vac, as are my three girls. As soon as Muchu got back in to his hutch, he started chomping on some hay, so he definitely didn't have any side effects :)
