The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Bob's lost weight

We've got a vets appointment tomorrow morning.

I was wondering if his weight loss could just be down to the heat? Both him and his sister are about 8 years old now.

They are still bounding around, eating and pooping as normal. Pat has some fur mites but not effecting the skin (will get those sorted tomorrow too). She may have lost a little bit of weight but its hard to tell.

When they were weighed in January Pat was about 1.9kg and Bob was 2.2kg. I tried to weigh him not very gracefully on kitchen scales at the weekend and he was 1.8-1.9kg and he certainly looks more slender, but that could also be partly down the heavy moult they're both just finishing off.

Has anyone else had their buns shed a bit of weight in this heat?

More mature Rabbits do start to lose muscle mass so that can account for some weight loss/change of body shape

Dental issues can also arise, even if the Rabbit has never had problems before and has always had a good diet. Changes in bone Density that occurs with aging can result in 'late onset' Dental problems. So he may be eating more slowly and therefore not getting his full share of food.

It would be more of a concern if the weightloss was accompanied by excessive drinking/urination and/or a quieter demeanour

Hope all goes well at the Vets

Phew! Bob hadn't lost weight (just my dodgy scales then) but he has definitely had a heavier moult so looks a lot leaner than normal! Pesky hot weather. They've now both been treated for mites, had a mani/pedi and Pat had her very fluffy bottom shaved as she gets a bit lazy about cleaning it!
