  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Do I have a snuffle bun?

Since I got back from holiday day 10 days ago I noticed Peter was sneezing a bit, I asked my Mum who was looking after the buns if she had noticed and she said no, I but it down to the fact that he had a very heavy molt and as he had no discharge and clean paws have just been keeping an eye.

Over the last couple of days the sneezing has increased slightly and I just got home tonight and he now has a white discharge:cry: , I will take him to the vets on Monday but am wondering if this means he is now a 'snuffle bunny' and exactly what that means? Or is it possible for buns to somehow get infections that can be cleared up with anti-biotics?

I'm worried about my little man, he is currently eating well and is his normal self, he has always had good health, I can't believe he is now poorly

He sounds to have an upper respiratory tract infection. These can clear up after a course of abx. Often a long course is needed rather than just 7 days. It does not mean he will definitely keep having problems, but some Rabbits do have relapses especially at times of stress or when they have some other illness.

Thanks Jane, that's very helpful, fingers crossed it is an infection that won't cause him issues in the future. He doesn't have the discharge this morning so I'm hoping it hasn't got too bad yet.

They always manage to throw something unknown at you
