  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

acupuncture for rabbits

Mama Doe
A few days ago in took in a severely arthritic rabbit.
I took Lilly to the vet and she is on a fairly high dose of metacam.
It has not made a lot of difference to her yet ( she is reluctant to move and holds her hind leg to her body when she is forced to) but it is early days and she may feel more comfortable soon.
I want to consider other options for her if metacam dosnt work.
does anyone else have experience of acupuncture in rabbits and could it help Lilly.
I am in north East england if anyone can recommed a practitioner.
thanks

My Inca had Acupuncture every month for nearly 2 years. At 1st they get it once a week, then it goes to once a month. I found that it did help Inca....she was born deformed, she had a curved spine, no tail and her back leg turned in under her. She also had arthritis in her back end/hips. There is also Cartrophen Injections....I never tried these as the Metacam & Acupuncture worked well for Inca, but you could research that as an alternative.
