Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Disinfecting wound next to eye?

steeve

New Kit
I have no clue what happened, but it appears like my bunny is missing a patch of fur next to her eye. I believe it happened today a few hours prior. A few pictures:

In the latter she's squinting because of flash.
Her eye is totally fine, she doesn't seem bothered by the wound; she's running around fine.

What can I use to speed up healing/ disinfect? It's currently 1:30 in the morning here, everything is closed. I have iodine and rubbing alcohol, but I'm not sure how safe those are. I also have a 10% povidone-iodine solution, also not sure about that. Ive also heard of raw honey being used on wounds. What is a good way to cleanse the area? Or, should I even tamper with it? I don't want to risk getting anything in her eye, she isn't very good at sitting still either.

Thank you guys in advance.

Hiya

Is it bleeding or weeping? If not I would leave it and see how it goes. Hopefully she won't scratch it and it will keep dry and scab over until the morning. A vet trip will probably be best then in case she needs antibiotics.

Do you think she may have done this with her back foot when having a scratch?

Hope she is okay x

Nope it just looks like she ripped some fur off, so I hope she'll be ok tomorrow. She doesn't appear to be actively touching that area so I think it'll scab soon.

I'm not sure how she did it, but by scratching it might be a possibility. Thanks for the advice.
