Young Bun
I would like to hear your opinions, what do you think would be the best?
I'm not getting anything right now (it's only a week since he has been neutered) but just want to know what to get someday in the future.
He is 2 years old boy. He doesn't have problem with other animals at all; he likes my dog, and the cat (that sadly just passed away two months and a half ago) went a few times in his cage and he didn't have any problem with him. He is not possessive over his things; if you give him something nice to eat (fruits or treats) he normally goes away but even if you take it away from him, he won't bite or anything. The only thing I notice was running away from other animals; if you put hand in his cage he normally comes to get his nose rubs but when I put a degu into his cage (the degu was sick and I had to take her to the specialist next day and she wanted to cuddle with Igor, she was looking for his presence and just loved him on first sight) Igor was running away. Nearly every time she came close to him and touched him, he ran away. And, that running around his cage was pretty noisy. I later took the degu out for the night... So, do you think he would get used to a presence of a new rabbit if he is running away now? After 6 weeks of his neutering I will try bonding him with my neighbour's two unspayed female rabbits. Of course on neutral territory and in separate cages, just to make sure that at first they smell eachother.
The next question is: what to get? I'm soooooooo in love with Belgian Hares but until I have my own flat that will sure be enough big, maybe the BH is not a good idea Then, I love dutches but it will be pretty hard getting a baby. The long haired bunnies are not the greatest idea I guess, because of the heat we get in those flats. And also: How old should the new bunny be, female/male? I would personally like to get another male more than a female, but maybe the bonding with female would be easier? I'm thinking of getting the youngest bun as possible, so they are still used to presence of other animals and they are not yet territorial. Of course, I would get him/her neutered/spayed asap. I just somehow want to make sure they get along well, not spay/neuter at first and then I'll need to have them separated.
I love my bunny but I would also like to have another one. But I'm a bit afraid of his/hers behaviour; will it be biting everything, everywhere? Will it **** and poo everywhere around? Will it like the traveling like my bun does? I take him to my hometown with me nearly every weekend.
I don't have the slightest problem with Igor. He is such a sweet bunny. He is running free all the time, every morning and even in the nights sometimes he comes to get cuddles. He doesn't chew on anything. He can be hiding under the bed for whole day and there won't be any poops or ****. But I'm afraid he might have to be closed in cage when I'm not home if the other bunny is not like he is
any opinions and advices will be greatly appreciated.
