  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
After a few days of heat, im sure we all will have noticed that our bunnies are a tad on the warm side. My jed is a house rabbit, it doesn't help that I live in an upper floor flat with the heat. But iv found a few things that help him when im at work and not able to leave balcony door open. Iv left the fan on for him (on a trip switch socket) fresh water twice a day from my britta filter in the fridge (not many buns can say they get filtered water lol) ice blocks. But iv filled a tub with water and freezed it and put that with him and he licks it bless him. Iv flavoured it with carrot and apple juice. Iv done that by using a juice extractor. I tried it on a whim but he loves it. Frozen veg juice. Ice pops for rabbits lol

That all sounds great. Rupert really feels the heat so it's very difficult with this heat especially with him being poorly. Ther bedroom is west facing so it gets very hot in there and they never seem to want to go to a cooler place. I do all you do-plus ice pods but I also keep black out blinds and curtains drawn from early to keep the sun out. That helps a lot. Rupert loves licking icy things too. :)
