Please if you could have a read through, sign and share both petitions that are found at the end if you havent already done so, thanks :)

'Rabbits Require Rights would very much appreciate your continued support on our petition campaign.

In recent weeks we are finding our petition is no longer maintaining the support it once was.
We have also had numerous queries into the differences the two petitions hold within the overall laws in the UK, therefore we have put this statement together in the hope of clarifying these differences, their overall effectiveness & how they both relate to each other.

RRR fully support Camp Nibble & Vice Versa, we recognise that BOTH petitions have the capability to work hand on hand towards what we are both trying to achieve. It should not be looked upon as a geographical issue.

The UK consists of 4 nations within one larger Government, each with a influence over the UK Government & laws as a whole.
Whilst we are campaigning for a specific law, Camp Nibble are looking towards the introduction of Codes of Practise.
The UK Government as a whole is a tougher nut to crack, therefore should the Codes be achieved then it will open the doors to further campaigns towards the betterment of rabbit welfare.
In Scotland however, we are finding great support from not only inside the Scottish Parliament but have gained recognition & backing from various ‘rabbit’ professionals. We truly believe we have a fighting chance to make Law happen here, and should the campaign for the introduction of the Codes be successful then any Laws passed in Scotland will have a resounding effect on the UK as a whole.

We are asking you to please not to overlook our petition in favour of others; they should both/all be signed, supported & promoted on an equal footing towards the greater fight towards the overall improvement of rabbit welfare in the UK

The UK's form of government is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system and its capital city is London.
The UK Government consists of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The latter three have devolved administrations, each with varying powers, based in their capital cities, The Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh; The Welsh Assembly in Cardiff and the Northern Ireland Assembly in Belfast.
There is no such thing as an English Government. It is the UK Government.
The UK Government is made up of MP’s from all 4 countries of the UK, with each MP having a seat in the UK Parliament at Westminster & influence into parliamentary matters.

For our campaign purposes we at RRR are initially concentrating on the Scottish Parliament, due to not only the complexities of lobbying for specific legislation but the way that UK politics work & how each country that makes up the UK Government operate.

1: We live in & around Edinburgh & thereby have access to the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood

2: Any Laws/Legislation passed in the Scottish Parliament can have an resounding effect on the UK Government as a whole

3: We have several interested MSPs (Ministers of Scottish Parliament) who have given their support to our campaign.

4: We, Rabbits Require Rights alongside representatives from both Buddies Bunny Rescue & RWAF have recently secured a position on the Cross Party Group on Animal Welfare at Scottish Parliament where we are a much needed voice for (pet) rabbits.

5: The Scottish Parliament has just over 100 MPS’s. Each of these MSP’s has a seat in the UK Government & any Legislation passed here, or support for particular campaigns can be brought to the attention of the remaining MP’s at Westminster, thereby giving us a greater foothold in the fight towards Welfare Rights for (pet) Rabbits in the UK as a whole, as is our intention.

6. We fully intend to create a secondary petition, one that is relevant to people living in Scotland alone asking for further support which in itself will give us another entry platform into the workings of the Scottish Parliament. This will enable us to not only go in front of the petitions committee to raise the issue further as they have more influence over Parliamentary matter than the Animal Welfare committee alone, furthermore by doing so it will enable us to achieve more publicity for the issues raised via other media.
We will do this once we feel the time is right, The reason for the delay in this is due to the fact that the petition direct to the petitions committee at the Scottish Parliament only runs for 3 months & we want to combine this with another effective campaign tool which will announced in due course & again something we want ALL of you that are able to, to support with your presence.

Rabbits Require Rights want Rabbit Specific Welfare Laws & that is exactly what we are campaigning for. It is not going to happen overnight, it will take time but the more support we can gather then there is a greater likelihood of it happening sooner.

We do not want a Code of Practise or other Guidelines, Recommendations or similar. We recognise that Codes alone have little preventative value. On the other hand, campaigning for the introduction of Codes is & will be a good platform for publicising the wider issues & therefore fully support Camp Nibbles campaign for the introduction of the Codes within the UK.
I have spoken with Hannah at Camp Nibble on several occasions & we fully support what each other are trying to achieve, RRR recognise that should the introduction of Code of Practise be implemented it will be a good starting point to tackle the wider issues concerning rabbit welfare.
Whereas if we are successful in the introduction of specific Laws in Scotland, combined with the Codes of Practise it will have a resounding affect on the overall laws within the UK as whole.

Given current legislation, namely the Animal Welfare Act (2006) it is clear that it does not protect the needs of pet rabbits in the UK, nor has the Codes of Practise introduced in Wales in 2009 made any real difference towards the various welfare & neglect issues surrounding these misunderstood & frequently neglected pets.

RWAF have been campaigning for years alongside DEFRA, PAAG various other Governmental organisations into improving rabbit welfare yet only small changes have been made.
The RWAF recommended hutch sizes are just that, recommendations & like Codes of Practise, sadly are not enforceable by law. They are open to interpretation by not only those we trust to oversee that the laws are being enforced but by those who sell such products like Hutches. There are few responsible retailers who have chosen to sign up to the RWAF retail charter; given the costs often involved in sourcing a recommended size hutch most members of public will opt towards the cheaper end of the market so it’s only by removing these items from sale by means of Laws that minimum housing standards for rabbits will ever be met. Having said that the importance of Codes of Practise should not be overlooked & supported as a starting point towards overall improvement on rabbit welfare.

We all want things to improve for rabbit welfare after all, it’s only by working together, supporting the various campaigns & not looking at them two different issues that change will eventually be achieved for the benefit of these neglected pets.

We need YOUR support in our fight towards better Rights for Rabbits!

Please continue to share, promote, sign & circulate BOTH petitions & remember that they are both equally important and neither is more relevant than the other to your geographical area.
Rabbits suffer throughout the UK, ALL of them need your voice.

Thank you, for the Buns! ♥

Didn't we have a thread about this earlier - unless they were different petitions?

There has been a few threads by people asking to sign both petitions, this thread is some extra information from Rabbits Require Rights that I thought people would like to read :)
