  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Excessive Cecals?

*Bex*

Mama Doe
Cleo has seemed to produce a lot of cecals today, since about late morning/lunch time.

Not sure if I should be concerned? Nothing has changed diet or meds wise. She's eating well and acting as normal as she can at the moment (severe head tilt)

Could there be a reason for this?

Could her head tilt be upsetting her a little more so than normal and as such, she can't reach them?

Is she a dental bunny?

She's never had a dental issue since I've had her. I've had her 18 months. She's eating all her food and hay with much enthusiasm!

I don't think her tilt is bothering her today, she's been quite bright and hopping quite well. Trouble is when she loses her balance she gets the cecals in her fur :( she hates being washed. Luckily I'm not at work now until Monday so can keep a close eye on her and keep her clean in the heat.

Maybe lower her pellets a little for a couple of days to increase hay eating. But unless it continues or she has other symptoms I wouldn't worry :)

If she has trouble with a specific spot, you could have it shaved, a little trim underneath makes it easier for you and them when it comes to cleaning and this time of year fluff is not essential
