Hello Everyone, hope you are all good!!
I really am just looking for some additional information from all you guys, since I have more trust in your suggestions, than currently experiencing from the one Veterinarian I have spoke with (not classing whole practice the same). Nothing against vets of course, just the one I had dealing with was really fear-mongering in my eyes, and I could not shake the feeling that she would have put our wee bunny to sleep. I may be wrong though....
Okay,
Our floppy first showed signs of the third eye-lid being out slightly, I came online and read accounts from here and elsewhere and decided to monitor it for a few days, keep an eye on her eating, pooping and activity levels. All these seemed fine you see, she was showing no discomfort and her eye was not red nor the eye lid.
On Wednesday when we returned I noticed she was breathing funny and sounded wheezy, I called the Vet immediately, they advised we kept and eye on her and if she got worse we could get an appointment. I decided against this and got one for an hour later for peace of mind for my wife who loves her to bits and for floppy's sake. They were really nice on the phone though.
The vet who looked at her never really expanded on anything I got on here to be honest, actually, I was informing her on what I had gathered on here and if it was any help to her. She just seemed uninterested (might just be me) and said take it day by day which had my wife in tears. I piped up that I would like antibiotics to kill the or at least reduce the bacteria causing the runny nose and weepy eyes. She agreed.
What she said next chilled me to the bones... Call me tomorrow (Yesterday) and speak to my colleague but if she is no better or her eye is any more bulgy, we will need to bring her in. I felt she was suggestion putting her to sleep. Thankfully, after her medication, greens, vitamins and my wife even syringing some liquefied greens in her mouth while cuddling her, she picked up Thursday morning. Her breathing was less laboured in look, wheezing had dropped significantly and she was eating her greens and throwing her toys about happily. Obviously, she still is a bit sneezy...one minute she is more at rest and others she is more snotty really. Much better though...anyway...
It may very well be a slow process but the vet wants us to take her in tomorrow again...I am in two minds here, we have her meds and she is progressing or at least easing off but the stress of another trip may flare this. Her eye bulges when she is stressed and reduces when she is at ease and left to be. So its a hard thing for me...what more at this exact point can they do that is not already being done. We have been given two weeks worth of Antibiotics, 1 weeks worth of anti-inflammatory and some powder to sprinkle on food to ease tummy.
Is there anything else anyone can suggest to assist her further? Anything I can buy or request or nutritionally to boost her immune system and the like?
What would be the best course of action in your eyes or through your experience or do we just carry on as is.
I tell you, its a blooming worry. We already lost her partner Imogen a few weeks after buying them from pets at home, my wife grew very close to floppy since and now this.
Oh, her teeth have been checked too and seem fine, that is what Imagen past away due to, same vets who decided to put her to sleep. Was a total shock being our first bunnies and not understanding the whole dental thing...we thought we were picking her up after a straight forward operation.
Anyway, hope this makes sense....hard to concentrate these past couple of days though worry over the whole thing.
Thanks as always everyone!!
