  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Looking for rabbit savvy/exotic vet in North Lanarkshire/ Glasgow Area

Stewy

Young Bun
Hi guys

Looking for some help and advice in finding a rabbit savvy vet in North Lanarkshire/ Glasgow area.

I already have a thread on here about my 11 year old male rabbit with an abcess behind his eye.

At my local vets I have seen 4 different vets on 4 occasions.

I was looking for someone nearby who specialises in rabbits so I can get a second opinion.

Im not saying my vets are wrong or anything but they rarely see rabbits and i think mine was the first they had saw in months.

I would be grateful if you could reply to this thread

Thanks in advance

im in wishaw

so holyown would be closer than coatbridge.

Thanks for that . I just don't know what to do for the good of my boy.

It is tough when they get things wrong with them. I recently lost my girl to a foot abscess.....well she did have loads more wrong with her but that was the last thing that she couldn't get over :(

sorry to hear that, its horrible having to see them go thru illnesses
i feel like things arent looking good for my wee boy and I would do whatever possible to try n help him.
I am doing all I can just now but still feel at a loss.
He was doing well after a bad case of snuffles then his eye bulges out with what we think is an abcess behind it.

Given his age and his breathing problems puts us in a difficult position.
I wish I cud wave a magic wand. Thanks again for suggesting that vet

Hey sweet, Madonna does indeed work in holytown and coatbridge.
She works in holytown all day on a tuesday and they have open clinics in the morning from 8:30-9:30 and then another open clinic in the afternoon starts at 1:30-2:00 you basically go and wait and first come first serve.

Do you need a lift at all?
I'll be going to the vet's tomorrow for Willow and Rupert's vacc's.
We were going to go for the afternoon app, so could pick you up if you needed it?

xxx

Oh how annoying :( I hope someone else can suggest a good vet.

I've heard a lot of good things about the Royal D1ck vet school, is that a little too far for you? I travel about 38 mins to get to my vets and they're very understanding of that fact. They allow me to inject Nena at home because of the distance which reduces her overall stress, and as long as I remind them they always give me plenty of medication to last until the next visit. Might be worth a try?

D!ck vets is quite a bit away, about an hour and a half drive, and you need to get a referral and wait for an appointment....and it is rather expensive.

Ah okay. Google maps told me it was closer than that . It's clearly failed me again!

I shall hide away with my abysmal knowledge of Scottish geography

You can still ask for the second most rabbit savvy vet they have.
They might call M for you and ask her advice.
*hugs*
Going to have a wee look at your other thread just now xxx

eta: I think her name is Claire, she seems to know what she's talking about or did when I took Bailey in with an abcess on his side.

Thanks i appreciate you having a wee look at my other thread xx

Im just scared their verdict is similar to my vets.

Something is telling me its a tooth root problem but do not know for sure.

The hard bit is being unable to do xrays etc to know whar is going on behind the eye

i use A+G Vets in Bonnybridge (near Falkirk), they have been excellent so far. Is about 40mins from Wishaw if thats any use.

I hope things start looking up for your bun

Thanks for your reply , He's getting really worked up when i take him to my local vets which is 5 mins away so I dont know about a longer journey.
I just dont know what to do. I feel the stress of taking him every 2 days is not doing him any good as he trembles the whole time hes there.
I feel as If I'm not doing enough for him even though people are telling me I am doing all I can for him.
I hate to see him in pain and making noises when he's breathing.

I might try and take him to one nearer in Holytown.
My own vets are treating him with penicillin injections every 2 days and I am giving him baytril twice a day. I think i might ask for some metacam for him 2. He was on it then the vet took him off it. But i think he might need some sort of pain killer.

Thanks again for your reply
