Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

vaccinations... should I let bunny settle in first???

Hello, I am getting a bun later on. I already have 2 indoor buns and once I have saved for neautering I shall get it done and then find him a wife (they will be outdoor buns). But regarding the vaccinations, should I let him settle In or get him booked straight in x

I think it depends on how old he is and where you are getting him from?

I would personally wait a few days at least, but if he is older and has never been vaccinated or coming from a pet shop/neglected home etc, I would want to get him done asap. Too much stress all at once could cause more problems, but with them being outdoors I would not want to wait too long before getting them vaccinated.

We've had Charlie for over a month now, in hindsight I would have had her vaccinated sooner (we took her last week) but we took her for a check up well before her vaccination to make sure she was healthy enough. We are taking her again for a check up next Thursday and will talk about a spay.

If you want to leave it a couple of days, make an appointment and say you want to book him for his vaccination. You will only pay for the vaccination then and he will still have a full health check (if it works like that at your vets at least!)

Vets shouldn't give vaccinations before checking the bunny (or any animal) is in good health first so (in theory at least) there should always be a full health check included in the price of the vaccination. :D

Personally, I'd probably leave it a week or two; a move can be stressful enough, without a vet visit straight on top (unless it's unavoidable eg. say he were to go into stasis).
