  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

cutting nails

sheps

Warren Scout
today me and my OH managed to cut lolas front nails but it was difficult , her back ones need cutting but we are finding to difiicult to cut them , how does everyone do their rabbits back feet?

I wrap them in a towel, then bring out the foot that I wanna cut the nails on.....works well for me, although I have not tried it with my latest lady yet!

We cover them in a towel, OH snuggles them in close under his arm and gently pulls their leg out and holds it while I cut - it may take a few minutes and you may need to adjust positions a lot but with a bit of patience and perseverance you will get it done. Sometimes lying them back a little helps, not trancing but holding them with their back against your chest and then you leaning back a little, it gives you better access to the nails and if they deign to stay there for a bit you can whiz through.

We sit the buns up, my boyfriend holding them, and we give them treats whilst doing it so they just sit there still so I can do it as quick as possible. :)
