  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Scartching and bald patches

New Kit
We've noticed that our, one year old, indoor rabbit has some bald spots and that he keeps scratching himself. :(

We have checked the bald spots and it doesn't seem like he has fleas. We haven't seen any flaking either. We know rabbits moult, but should we be worried? Is there anything we can do other than taking him to the vet?

Update

Thank you, no one, for responding to my question :p

We kind of panicked earlier so I did some research on the internet and came across this article:
http://bunniez.hubpages.com/hub/Lon...hat-To-Do-When-All-Your-Rabbits-Fur-Falls-Out

I do think it has to do with moulting, and because we started noticing the bald spots we probably got a bit paranoid about the rabbits scratching behaviour. He seems to be a healthy rabbit (eating well, drinking, binkying(!), generally active and happy :)), so we're probably going to wait it out.

Unless there's something serious that I should be aware of that could be linked to the bald spots/scratching, please let me know!

Sorry, didn't see your post, it's a busy forum and posts often get missed ...

It could be fur mites...Perhaps a very quick visit to the vets for a check over... My bunny kept on scratching his neck, turned out he had ear mites!,

Better safe than sorry
