  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Weepy eye

I've noticed over the past month or so, Alfie will get a weepy eye. it's not both eyes, it's just one, and it's just wet around the fur with the odd bit of gunk which either I or Rosy have cleaned off. Now he went to the vets for his vaccs a few weeks back and I mentioned it to her - she put some eye drops in and also looked in his mouth but couldn't see anything that may be causing it. So I left it, and haven't been concerned about it until it has started recurring! Upon giving them their brekkie I noticed it come back and it's been confusing me as to why it's happening.

He's a good weight for his breed, he eats perfectly and doesn't seem to have any problems, he hasn't had any behavioural changes recently to suggest anything is wrong, he seems to be in perfect help really! If it was a one off I'd just put it down to a bit of hay poking him in the eye or anything but I must have noticed it, cleaned it and it come back about 4 times now :?

Any ideas? I don't really want to have to take him to the vets unless I really need to as him and rosy cannot travel together, so I have to bring both of them in seperate carriers and both rosy and alfie find it very stressful. Obviously if it may be dentally related I'd go but I can't seem to see any symptoms of that!
