Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vaccine advice

Hi,

We have 2 bonded pairs of bunnies, one set are just over a year old, were vaccinated separately for Myx / VHD in Oct12 last year, the vet at the time told us to come back in Oct13. However Myx when given in single injection should be every 6 months not 1 year right?

The second pair of bonded buns we recently adopted, they are about 2 years old, the previous owner said that the vaccination for the male was past due, and the vaccination for the girl was due mid July13, I don't know whether they had the combi or separate vaccines.

Rather than make 3 vets visits a year for different vaccination schedules I was thinking of getting them all done this weekend, the first pair are overdue on their Myx and with the second pair one is overdue on both and one is due in about a month. I would ask the vet but I'm probably going to take them to a rescue which does a drop in vaccine clinic because it is cheaper.

Would there be any complications with just getting the combi vaccine for all four of them now even though its a bit early for some of the diseases/rabbits?

Edit: Oh forgot to ask as well, one of the does was neutered about 4 weeks ago, she is fine and has healed well so I assume a vaccination at this point would be fine?

It shouldn't be any problem, tell the vet at the appointment but it's often the case with rescues it's hard to be sure exactly when or if they've been done and best to make sure they are covered by getting it done.
