Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help! looks like my rabbit has worms

Hi everyone, was just checking some of Dougals poops as he had done some outside the cage as sometimes he does as we know, he mainly uses litter tray but these ones I where picking up to put in it when I noticed what loks like to me a work and something else strange maybe parasite looking or it could be some carpet fiber, it was on the poop, same one or fur but I tried to take photo of both next to each other, if you can zoom in you will see them more clearly. Do I need to take him the vet or is de-worming him myself good enough? and how can he have contracted them? what is the best worming thing to give, he is 4 months old.

Please help.

 don't panic! Yes that definitely looks like a worm. But you don't need to take him to the vets necessarily, you need to buy some panacur for rabbits (pets at home or online, or any vets sell it). You give it him for 9 days and that will get rid of the worms. My Digby gets them sometimes, it's easily gotten rid of

Thanks very much, I am new to rabbits, last time I had one I was 10 years old, I am 29 now lol, so a long time ago. I will get on it, the other thing next to the poop is that just a bit of fure ball or fibre? it wasn't moving but looked strange. I have noticed a couple of poops have been smallish or smaller, do I need to worry about that? as he seems to be eating and going the toilet fine as far as I can tell.

I can't see anything else on the pic! If it's just one or two poops that are smaller I wouldn't worry, just keep an eye on them
