  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been here in ages; life caught up.

My poor Puffy has been to the vets with a poorly eye. It started to happen a few days after his vaccinations and his right eye began watering and had a slight white discharge.

We took him to a vet but not my normal vet however since it was on a Saturday and they aren't open on the weekend. The vet put some yellow dye test in his eye and said the eye wasn't damaged. He checked Puffy's teeth and they seemed to be fine. He gave Puffy some eye drops (Fucithalmic) and told us to put a drop in both eyes twice a day.

Today Puffy's eye seems to be looking very purple/blue at the bottom. He won't let me take a photo and screws his eye up when I try to look at it. He's in with other rabbits. Is it possible that Wheatley might be licking his eye clean and not allowing the drops to do their job? If it helps they live outside in a summer house so I cant watch them 24/7.

edit: Got a photo

Is this something I should be worried about or could it be a side effect of the drops? Its only this side though

I would take him back to the Vet as it may be that he does now have an ulcer, possibly caused by the other Rabbit licking his eye a lot.

Took Puffy this morning and just got back from the vet. Puffy possibly has an eye parasite and has been given
Metacam, Panacur and has been told to carry on with the Fucithalmic. All the other bunnies who live with Puff are going to be taken in to get weighed and get their own treatment of Panacur. :thumb:

That would be Encephalitozoon Cunicul. There is some information about it here
