The Origins of Rescue Rabbits
So, you want a ‘breeder’ bunny,
‘Cos you want a certain size;
You want specific colouring,
Specific ears, specific eyes.
So why not look in rescues?
Why not save a life?
Amongst the many thousands of rabbits
Must be a bun that ‘looks just right’.
And where do you think they come from,
These homeless, unwanted buns?
Do they suddenly appear by magic
In the rescue’s rabbit run?
Ah yes, so many come from breeders!
Supplied to a pet shop, bought on a whim.
Then they end up in a rescue
Another bun just ‘handed in’.
Yes, some are accidental litters,
But every single domestic bun
Originates from human breeders,
Bred for human greed and fun.
A rescue rabbit’s just as good,
In fact they’re even better!
For most will have been neutered,
To prevent unwanted litters.
So look around the rescues,
They have every shape and size,
Giant buns and nethies,
Buns with different coloured eyes.
They have buns of every colour,
And their characters are known,
So your personalities can match
Before you take your bunny home.
Yes, look around a rescue,
Look into those eyes......
Could you still go to a breeder
‘Cos you want a certain size?
