Hi All:wave::wave:

Is anyone aware of a rabbit savvy vet around High Wycombe, Uxbridge, Watford or Aylesbury who is prepared to use the correct antibiotics on rabbits?

I live in Amersham in Buckinghamshire.

Thanks for your help:D:D

Yes, this one was mentioned only last night. http://www.medivet.co.uk/Watford
Guy Carter is a specialist rabbit vet who's been recommended on the board many times. And best of all they do their own emergency cover, so no messing around with rubbish emergency vets who don't understand bunnies.

Does anyone know if Medivets are expensive?

My rabbits are currently on an insurance scheme with my current vets which covers everything apart from the £80 excess/emergency fee. If I change vets they won't be insured as they are aged between 5 to 10 years so which is to old for other insurance companies. However I need a rabbit savvy vets who will give the correct antibiotics.

It can work out expensive but that's because they make sure buns has everything it may need & don't cut corners sometimes I do wonder if the animal really needs everything suggested but at the end I just want my bun/cat to be healthy at the end of it Why are you thinking of changing vets if you've got your insurance with them?

In the last 7 months I've had two rabbits with head tilt and the vets would only use Baytril. They wouldn't consider using any other antibiotics even when I asked. Smudge did receive good care as he went to vets every day for syringe feeding and monitoring which was covered by the insurance. Also the insurance does cover the use of a specialist but the vets felt that Smudge didn't need to see a specialist. He has made a full recovery.

However I find it hard work trying to ensure that my rabbits get proper treatment. For example if my rabbits have an operation or stop eating I always have to ask for metacam. It's never given automatically.

On Monday I lost Tilly due to an abscess/respiratory infection. I can't blame the vets but the emergency vets would only give Baytril/cat metacam. It would be good to use a vet who I felt was doing the best for rabbits.
