Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Flap of skin or muscle on rabbit's feet

New Kit
Hello,

One of our bunnies, a male about 3 years old, has developed flaps of skin or muscle on its back feet. The flaps stick out almost perpendicular to its feet, like an extra toe on each foot. He doesn't seem to be in any discomfort. Does anyone have any idea what this might be?

Thanks!

Have you taken him to a Vet ?

It is impossible to say what the problem may be without being able to actually see/examine the feet.

Is he a very fluffy Rabbit ? Felts of thick fur can form around the feet. Could matted fur be what you are seeing ?
