Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

microchipping

Has anyone on here had their bunnies microchipped? I'm considering getting them done as if the worst ever happened i don't know how anyone would know they were mine. My Dad who works at the Blue Cross says it could be an idea, and I could maybe take them their to get it done as they do free microchipping weekends. I'm not 100% decided yet as it would be a little run out in the car and I don't want them to get too stressed out. Anyone got any views on this?

My bunnies are micro-chipped. I think it's one of those things that you could potentially end up deeply regretting it if they weren't. I personally take my bunnies for a car ride at least once a week, and as a result they find it quite stimulating and are very excited on the way out, and snoring their head of on the way back :lol: I've never actually agreed with this wait until your bunny gets really poorly, and then lets stress him out even more by taking him in the car which he isn't at all used to, so personally take them, get them micro-chipped and then every chance you get take them for a little car ride. Sometimes with a very, very poorly bunny, depending on how stressed out they are going to get in the car, could just be the difference between living or dying :cry:

thank you for all the great replies, I will see if they will do it at the blue cross, as normally their microchipping days are for cats and dogs :)

I had all my four done when the RSPCA were doing free microchipping during Rabbit Awareness week a couple of years ago. Jenson came to me from the RSPCA already microchipped.

The risk of losing mine is minimal, but if for some reason they did get out of the house without me knowing, then at least they are microchipped. Though I'm sure my whole street know I have buns and would come and get me first before trying to catch them!

yes mine are microchipped, dindt feel a thing, although sox had his doen when he was neutered so he wouldn;t of known
