  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Evan is on a lot of meds and unfortunately i'm not well so need to go to hospital on Monday morning so I cant give him morning meds but gran can but she has arthritis and will struggle to draw up the meds can I draw them up the night before or will the meds become unusuable

I can't see that it would cause a problem if the syringes are clean and dry to start with and the drawn up meds are kept in their usual climate eg in the fridge if they need to be.

Metacam looses its strength when in the light, not sure if the same applies for other meds.

I expect it depends on the medication.

I'd ring a vet in the morning and ask- it wouldn't even have to be your vet if they're not open.

If you can't find a vet to ask I'm sure someone on here could recommend a friendly one to ring on a Sunday.

It shouldnt be a problem. Just ensure the needles and syringes are kept correctly and kept sterile.
We have meds drawn up for about 6 months they are fine. We just change the needle so it doesnt blow.
